This is a cocktail made with Kaffir lime infused vodka. My children pointed out to me that Kaffir lime is now known as Makrut lime because of the racist connotations of the Arabic word Kaffir, meaning infidels or non believer of Islam.

I was initially going to call this cocktail the Kaffir Moscow Mule, but have settled on calling it The Infidel. The leaves of the Market lime as well as the rind of the fruit are used as flavoring agents in cooking all over Southeast Asia. Thanks to my BITS batch mate Sanjoy, I have an assured supply of these leaves until our tree grows enough to allow me to safely pluck leaves off it.

I drop a bunch of leaves in a bottle holding about a half liter of vodka and keep it away in a cool, dark place for the leaves to impart their classic flavor to the vodka.

  • 2 oz Makrut (Kaffir) lime infused vodka

  • Juice of half a lime

  • Fevertree ginger beer

Pour the lime juice and vodka over ice in a serving glass and top off with the ginger beer. Swirl and enjoy!

Wonderful summer evening cocktail. Salud!
